Jonathan Zandbergen – Soneva Stars Visiting Chef
Executive Chef at Restaurant Merlet in Schoorl, Netherlands, since 2015, Jonathan Zandbergen is considered one of the greatest Dutch culinary talents. With cooking methods that combine both tradition and innovation, he has won numerous prestigious awards, including the ‘Prix Culinary Le Taittinger’ in 2014, as well as being crowned Gault & Millau’s ‘Most Talented Chef’ in 2017.
Mark Lundgaard – Soneva Stars Visiting Chef
Mark Lundgaard is the head chef and director at two-Michelin starred Kong Hans Kælder restaurant in Copenhagen. In his universe, food is not a gift sent down from heaven. With a distinctive mix of classic French cuisine and new Nordic kitchen, he creates dishes that define palatability at its best.
Nina Metayer – Soneva Stars Visiting Chef
Originally from Mexico, Nina Metayer is the darling of Parisian patisserie. A fan of the city’s famed Café Pouchkine since its inception, she was chosen by Andrey Dellos as the group’s Creative Dessert Manager in the spring of 2017, and is now is Creative Pastry Director. With her famous chocolate-buckwheat creation in the running for the best chocolate dessert of the year in the Lebey Guide 2016, Nina was also voted Pastry Chef of the Year 2016 by her peers in Le Chef magazine, and named Pâtissier of the Year 2017 by the Gault & Millau Guide.
Mickael Viljanen – Soneva Stars Visiting Chef
After spending some time in the United Kingdom, Swedish-born Finnish chef Mickael Viljanen moved to Ireland in 2000 where he worked with Paul Flynn at the Tannery. While working at the Gregans Castle Hotel, Mickael was awarded Chef of the Year and Restaurant of the Year from Food & Wine Magazine and RAI’s Chef of the Year award. He moved on to open The Greenhouse in Dublin in 2012, winning Food & Wine Magazine’s Chef of The Year twice, most recently in 2019. In 2015, Mickael entered the Michelin Guide with one star, and in 2019 the restaurant won its second star under his leadership. Mikael now leads the kitchen at two Michelin-starred Chapter One by Mickael Viljanen in Dublin.
Bart De Pooter – Soneva Stars Visiting Chef
Bart De Pooter is a prominent Belgian chef, best known for his two-Michelin-starred restaurant Pastorale, which also received a 17/20 rating in the Gault Millau guide and was selected as Belgium’s best vegetarian restaurant in 2018. Bart’s cuisine is marked by balance, simplicity and pureness as he continuously looks for techniques that intensify the taste of his ingredients.
Marcel Gurk – Soneva Stars Visiting Football Freestyler
Hailed as one of the best football freestylers in the world, Marcel Gurk is the current German champion, holds ten Guinness World Records and is the author of the world's first book on football freestyling. While in the Maldives, he will be hosting complimentary daily football freestyling workshops for Young Sonevians.
David Villa – Soneva Stars Visiting Football Player
Born in Asturias, Spain, in 1981, David Villa is one of the best football strikers of all time. FIFA World Cup champion, UEFA Champions League winner and the Spanish National Team's all-time leading goalscorer, scoring 59 goals in 98 appearances, Villa has played for top-level clubs across four continents. After his retirement, he founded his own company, DV7 Group. Through the DV7 Academy, camps, clinics and other curricula are offered to boys and girls around the world to help develop their football talent under a proven, winning system while developing important life skills that benefit them on and off the pitch.
Roger Moore – Soneva Stars Visiting Wellness Specialist
Named in Tatler’s ‘Best of the Best’ guide as ‘one of the top 8 therapists worth travelling around the globe for’, Roger Moore has been a key figure in the wellness sector for more than three decades, conducting therapies, seminars and workshops in energy work, spiritual healing and profound emotional recovery around the world. His unique approach combines cutting-edge science and medicine, Eastern wellness philosophies, psychotherapeutics and spirituality to create an integrative pathway to wellbeing.
Oppidan Education
Stay inspired and intrigued outside of term time. We have partnered with Oppidan Education, a British-based mentoring firm created to help our younger guests continue their learning outside of the classroom and reach their full potential. As well as complimentary drop-in workshops with fun, educational activities, Oppidan will also offer private, one-on-one appointments, which can be scheduled each afternoon.
Soneva Academy Courses
Combine your stay with a fascinating learning experience for Young Sonevians - with Soneva Academy's three-day courses on the stars, marine life, life in the jungle or zero waste and plastic pollution. Each course is suitable for older children and teens, aged 12 to 18.
The Adventure of Corbin
This special Soneva Academy adventure follows in the wake of The Corbin, a galleon that sank on the Goidhoo reef in 1602. Stay on the island of Innafushi to learn about the sea, survival skills and ancient navigation methods.

Begin your morning with glasses of Champagne and a delicious and nutritious breakfast on the sands of North Beach as you watch the sun rise above the horizon.
Floating Breakfast
Start the day as you mean to go on with a sumptuous breakfast served on a tray in your own private pool. Enjoy freshly baked pastries and an array of fresh seasonal fruit, as well as fruit juice and an optional bottle of Champagne.
Down to Earth
Dine under the soaring roof of The Gathering on internationally-inspired à la carte dishes from Chef Rana and his talented team. Try local cuisine from around the Indian Ocean and Asia, pizzas fired in our wood oven and salads of freshly picked ingredients from our organic gardens.
Crab Shack
Dine on succulent crabs and seafood, with a glass of rosé in your hand and your toes in the sand. Expect signature dishes like pepper crab, chilli crab and Sri Lankan specialities, prawns à la plancha and calamari. The Crab Shack is made of driftwood, flotsam and jetsam that came in with the tides. It is perfectly positioned on the southwest beach to watch the beautiful Maldivian sunsets.
Overseas by Mathias Dahlgren
Overseas is the brainchild of acclaimed Swedish chef and restaurateur, Mathias Dahlgren. Located by The Gathering, the overwater al fresco restaurant has a menu that focuses on pescatarian, vegetarian and plant-based dishes. Serving a selection of snacks, sharing plates and signature mains for lunch and dinner, the fish and seafood are sustainably caught in local waters, while the vegetables, herbs and fruits are freshly picked from Soneva Jani’s own organic gardens.

Dine on the complex, yet subtle flavours of modern Japanese cuisine, prepared by the culinary team led by our Executive Chef Chris. Enjoy watching a film at the Maldives' first overwater cinema.

Relax in the comfort of your over-water villa, and we'll bring fine dining right to your doorstep. Gather together for a dining experience that brings the element of fire to the fore. So Primitive’s centrepiece is a fire pit where different cooking techniques are honoured. Think roasting, grilling, searing, salt-crusted baking and cooking in a kettle and clay pots over coals. Choose from a menu that features fresh seafood, meats and plant-based dishes.

Celestial Dinner at So Starstruck
Gaze towards the heavens at the first overwater observatory in the Maldives. Sit at one of the four dining tables around our telescope and dine on an expertly crafted set menu while our resident Astronomer is on-hand to help navigate the skies.

Noonu Atoll Guided Snorkelling
The tropical reefs of the Noonu Atoll are within a 10- to 20-minute boat ride from our lagoon. Let our Marine Biologist guide you through the marine world full of sea life and corals.
Sunset Dolphin Cruise
Cruise deeper waters with your family and friends in search of playful dolphins, while watching the sun set into the Indian Ocean. Nibble on a selection of canapés while holding a glass of sparkling Prosecco in hand.
Coral Planting with the Marine Biology Team
Take part in our coral rehabilitation programme by joining our Marine Biology team in planting coral fragments on reef stars in the lagoon. Your efforts will result in the creation of new habitats for our local marine life.
Stargazing with Maavin, our Astronomer, at So Starstruck
Explore the starry night sky through the lens of Eleos, our 16" Schmidt Cassegrain telescope – her namesake is the Greek goddess of compassion, pity and mercy. Depending on the time of year you can see the rings of Saturn, the moons of Jupiter, the Orion nebula, Omega Centauri and much more. If you are interested in learning more about the sky or seeing other deep space objects through Eleos, please ask your Barefoot Butler to book an Astronomy Dinner or a Private Astronomy Tour.

Indulge in relaxing and rejuvenating therapies from around the world that reconnect mind, body and soul. Soneva in Aqua
Soneva in Aqua, our luxury, custom-built yacht, is available for day and overnight charters. The two-cabin, 23-metre vessel is the perfect blend of Soneva’s sustainable luxury ethos and an adventurous seafaring spirit. Charter Soneva in Aqua for diving, surfing or snorkelling trips to some of the Maldives’ most beautiful atolls and reefs. Your crew will consist of the Captain, Private Chef, Barefoot Butler, Wellness Therapist and Mechanic. A Dive Master, Surf Instructor, Photographer and Astronomer can be added on request.
Jungle Gym
The Jungle Gym at Soneva Jani will allow you to work through all elements of your fitness - balance, coordination, agility, strength, power and endurance. Try climbing ropes, hanging bars, balance beams, a power sled and logs for flipping or pulling through the sand. An adventure not to be missed, and a fantastic programme for children of all ages!
Watersports Activities
Soneva Jani offers a variety of watersports activities and experiences such as paddle boarding, windsurfing, kayaking, wakeboarding, kneeboarding and kite surfing. You can also learn to swim or snorkel with our experienced instructors and guides. All of our non-motorised watersports are complimentary, lessons are chargeable.
Fly Boarding Experience
Experience our beautiful Medhufaru Lagoon as you glide across the turquoise water. If you don’t know how to Fly Board, our watersports Hosts are more than happy to teach you the basics.
Soleni Dive School
The Soleni Dive School is open 365 days a year, offering morning, afternoon and night dives and PADI-registered courses. For dive programmes, please make a booking with your Barefoot Butler.
Yoga and Pranayama
Join Justin and Kamal, our Yoga and Meditation Masters, for authentic yoga and guidance into yogic breathing (Pranayama). Enhance your overall wellbeing; stretch and strengthen your body; learn to focus your mind and balance your emotions. Yoga sessions can also be booked privately with Justin or Kamal, to help you reach new levels of balance, strength, coordination and mental clarity.

The Den (Parents Must Be Accompanied by Children)
Join us at the all-new Den - our inspiring haven dedicated to children and teens of all ages! Glide along the zipline, make a splash in the pool, hang out in the grotto, or hop along the musical piano steps to create your own music. From sensory spaces for toddlers to a mocktail bar for teens, plus areas for dressing up, lego, crafts, reading and so much more. The space and programme are designed for children 4 years and older; children under 4 are welcome to join us if accompanied by a parent or a babysitter.
